There’s More to Financial Literacy Than Education | Matt Jaekel | TEDxAurora [Video]

Educator Matt Jaekel explores the significance of our relationship with financial literacy – “Money Mindset.” His humor and practical tips help viewers see money not as an end goal, but as a tool to achieve their dreams. In addition to knowing about finances, financial literacy involves understanding one’s relationship with money, aligning one’s financial behaviour with one’s values and goals, and developing healthy financial habits. As an educator at St. Andrew’s College, one of Matt’s passions is making economics and financial literacy meaningful and engaging. Nine years ago, he transitioned from a career in wealth management to education, and as soon as he stepped into the classroom, he never looked back. He considers himself lucky to do what he loves for a living.

Matt also promotes learning outside the school environment and has developed financial education content for charities, start-ups and large educational organizations. One of Matt’s resources, “The Realistic Affordability Budget,” has been featured in the Globe and Mail.

When not teaching in the classroom, Matt can most likely be found coaching tennis on his school or neighbourhood courts, as he enjoys mentoring young athletes and participating in his community.
