My personal platform for the Miss Universe Cayman Islands pageant is Protecting and Preserving Caymanian Culture and Heritage, and creating these videos is one way I hope to do just that.

The name of this project is ‘Caymanians Doin’ It’ and I am creating these videos for the purpose of highlighting, celebrating, and recognizing Caymanians who are (as the project title states ‘Doin’ It’) as well as educating people on the fact that these Caymanians exist! For now, I will be releasing two videos a month dedicated to these amazing Caymanians. I told each person I interviewed to be their authentic self, to answer how they truly felt to, and most importantly, to not hide their Caymanian-ness or water down their experiences and feelings as a Caymanian. Every Caymanian does not have the same views or experiences as a Caymanian living in Cayman, so I create space for each person I interview to truly express how they feel. (All opinions stated belong to the interviewee.) Also, I encourage these individuals to speak in their authentic Caymanian accent and dialect so that the world can hear and know how we Caymanians sound, because there have been too many times while living in Cayman that I hear foreigners living here ask me and other Caymanians “Where are you from?” or “What accent is that?”. Never be ashamed of sounding/talking like a Caymanian; we’re a rare and special breed. 🇰🇾
