Farmers State Bank teaches financial literacy in school [Video]

(CALHAN, Colo.) — We are southern Colorado, and this week, FOX21 and Loving Living Local are highlighting the Eastern Plains.

Out east, local students are gaining valuable insights into managing their finances. FOX21’s Krista Witiak discusses the Farmers State Bank of Calhan’s Community Outreach Program with the bank’s branch manager. The program focuses on educating students in community schools about financial literacy.

“We send bank employees into the classes to give real-time examples and experiences to the students. We start with educating the students on budgeting, applying for a job, and credit scores,” said Calhan Branch Manager Lindsey Lawson-Preisser. “We continue the course, discussing other topics such as investments, credit, fraud, and what it means to be a good employee. The simulation will throw curve balls at them, such as a car accident, fraudulent transactions, and injury on the job. The students can use the knowledge they’ve learned in the …
