The Women for Philanthropy Luncheon is a premier networking opportunity for female leaders and philanthropists. We strive to create a community of women who are committed to making a difference in the world. First Lady of North Dakota Kathryn Burgum was the featured speaker at the 2024 Women for Philanthropy Luncheon

Burgum has made it a priority as First Lady to support and develop initiatives to eliminate the shame and stigma of the chronic disease of addiction in North Dakota communities. In long-term recovery for 22 years, she shares her personal experiences to encourage others to do the same to normalize conversations around addiction.

Under Burgum’s leadership, North Dakota pioneered the first-ever statewide stigma survey in 2018 to evaluate the baseline attitudes citizens hold toward addiction and recovery. Through her collaboration with statewide partners and the North Dakota Behavioral Health Division, the state has experienced an 11% reduction in stigmatized attitudes according to a 2021 follow-up study.

Over her life, Burgum has donated her time and leadership to many charitable endeavors including at-risk women and children, animal welfare, visionary artists and the arts, and addiction and recovery.
