Womens History Month spotlight: Women in Medical History [Video]

As we wrap up March, we continue to shine a spotlight on Women’s History Month.

While most of the country’s working doctors are still men, female medical students have begun outnumbering their male peers. As of the 2023-2024 school year, they make up more than 55 percent of students in the country’s M.D.-granting programs, according to the Association of American Medical Colleges. Women are underrepresented in leadership roles, but one local doctor believes things are changing.

Dr. Sheila Chhutani, an ObGyn at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas. Dr. Chhutani was recently named the new chair for the department of ObGyn.

She joined the KRLD Afternoon News to discuss how she feels about being the first woman and person of color to hold this position.
