Inmates participate in “HIRE” Academy to learn employability skills | News [Video]

SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI). – A program at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility is allowing inmates to learn employability skills. Skills like interviewing, how to create a proper resume, and how to complete a job application. They also learn financial literacy, digital literacy, and more.

“HIRE” Academy is a two-day program for inmates. An inmate is required to take the academy classes if they have completed vocational training, but any inmate is welcome.

Arin Pritchard is the HIRE Coordinator for Region 8 in Indiana. She says there is a mutual reward for both the inmates and herself.

“I’ve heard a lot of my class participants just tell me how much they love going through the academy,” Pritchard said. “Because of the attention we pay to them, the time we give them, and to treat them as a person and not a D.O.C. number. Just to be a very small part …
