ERIA | Female Entrepreneurs in ASEAN: Innovation to Tackle Marine Plastic Waste

As a result of rapid economic growth coupled with the lack of solid waste management infrastructure, ASEAN region is regarded today as one of the biggest contributors to marine plastic pollution. Along with policymakers, researchers and consumers, the private sector is recognized as a key stakeholder to address this issue. In an attempt to change the linear way we have been managing plastic across its lifecycle and nudge it toward a more circular production and consumption, the private sector has a greater role to play with its economic and innovative power and its capacity to induce behavior change among the consumers
