Cave Creek organization using donkeys as therapy animals [Video]

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — You often hear about therapy animals such as dogs, but what about donkeys? One organization in the Valley is using these lovable animals to help people living with certain disabilities, and that is Something Good!

The Donkeys of the Heart” in Cave Creek offers therapeutic and adaptive riding. The organization helps children, teens and adults with cognitive, mental, and behavioral challenges, along with at-risk community and military members.

Staff says the adaptive riding offers physical, psychological and educational benefits to those who participate. Riders have seen improved balance and strength, self-confidence and greater listening skills and focus.

Donkeys of the Heart is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and closed on the weekends.
